The MUJ Hostels Evolution Timeline
A struggle-born personal initiative
When I was about to join MUJ, campus hostels were completely packed and getting a room was extremely stressful. Off-campus, I had no idea which PG was actually good. Online, whoever got a commission from a landlord would only praise and push that specific property. There was zero honest guidance. Frustrated by this biased system, I sat in my room, loaded up HTML & Bootstrap, and built an overnight basic directory listing 10 PGs with direct owner numbers to bypass the brokers.
A basic directory that required manual updates
The first version of the site was extremely basic. Every single entry, rent pricing update, and owner phone number had to be updated manually by me. As semesters got busy with classes and exams, managing hundreds of listings manually became impossible, which is why the platform couldn't be maintained constantly. But we learned our lesson.
Modern Next.js database that runs itself
With graduation close (Batch of 2022-2026), I completely rebuilt MUJ Hostels from scratch using Next.js. The new platform is fully automated—owners register and manage listings themselves, prices update in real-time, and inquiries route directly. With zero manual bottlenecks, the system runs itself seamlessly so that nobody faces any outdated data. It remains 100% free, forever!
